📝 Overview
What is a 1099-K form?
A 1099-K is a tax form that summarizes the total card payments your business received during the year. The form helps you and the IRS verify that your reported income matches your actual card processing activity.
When will It be available?
Your 1099-K is typically available for download by mid-January, and Stripe will paper mail one to you by January 31.
If you check to see if the 1099-K is available before mid-January, the form may not be ready yet if the year you're looking for isn't listed. You can check back at a later time. If you don't see a 1099-K posted by January 31st, 💬 Contact Us.
Understanding your 1099-K Form
The amount shown on your 1099-K reflects your gross sales - the total of all card payments processed during the year before any deductions. This is not the same as your taxable income.
The following costs are not subtracted from that number, but they do reduce what you report as income:
Processing fees
Refunds issued to customers
Chargebacks
Credits and discounts
For example, if your 1099-K shows $80,000 but you had $5,000 in processing fees and $2,000 in refunds, you would report $73,000 as income - not the full $80,000.
Be sure to compare your 1099-K against your reports to make sure everything matches.
