📝 Overview

Customize Lists is where you manage the dropdown menus used throughout DaySmart Pet, covering things like payment types, pet breeds, referral sources, and appointment confirmations. Keeping these lists organized keeps your dropdowns accurate for booking, checkout, and reporting.

🛠️ Accessing Customize List Settings

Follow these steps to open the Customize Lists screen:

  1. From the software, go to Settings.

  2. Select Management.

  3. Click Customize Lists.

This opens the Manage Custom Lists page, organized into six sections: Tickets, Clients, Pets, Products, Services, and Employees. Each section lists the specific dropdown lists you can edit.

📋 What You Can Customize

Here's a breakdown of every list you can manage from this screen.

Tickets

  • Referral: Tracks how a client was referred for a specific appointment. Selected directly on the ticket.

  • Payment Types: Customizes the payment options available when closing a ticket, such as specific credit cards, cash, or check.

  • Confirmation: Records whether and how an appointment was confirmed ahead of time.

  • Time Block Descriptions: Labels used to describe what an employee has taken time off for.

Clients

  • Categories: Assigned to a client for faster search when booking appointments.

  • Referral: Tracks how a client first heard about your business. This is separate from the ticket-level Referral list above.

Pets

  • Types: The pet species your business works with, such as dog, cat, or bird.

  • Breeds: The list of pet breeds available to select when creating or editing a pet.

Products

  • Categories: Groups products for faster retail sales and category-based reporting.

  • Make: The brand or maker of a product. Useful for search and for reporting.

Services

  • Categories: Groups services for faster and easier appointment booking.

Employees

  • Categories: Specifies the types of services an employee performs.

✏️ Adding, Editing, and Removing List Items

These are the general steps for editing any list on this screen. Exact controls can vary slightly by list type.

💡 Pro Tip: Keep entries specific and consistent. Avoid near-duplicate items (like "Lab" and "Labrador") so dropdowns stay easy to scan and reporting stays accurate.

  1. Go to Settings > Management > Customize Lists.

  2. Click the Edit button next to the list you want to update, for example Edit Breeds List or Edit Client Category List.

  3. To add a new item, type a name into the text field and click Add.

  4. To remove an item, select it and use the delete control next to it.

  5. To reorder the list, use the up and down arrow buttons, or click and drag items into place. Which control you see depends on the list you're editing.

  6. Click Add Blank (or Add Blank To List) to insert a blank entry at the top of the list. This is available on every list and stops staff from defaulting to an unintended selection at checkout or booking.

  7. Click Save to apply your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

🔧 Troubleshooting

A list item isn't saving

If you add, edit, or remove a list item and it doesn't stick after clicking Save, try the following:

  1. Refresh the page and check whether the change actually saved before retrying.

  2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then log back in and try again.

  3. Try a different browser or an incognito/private window to rule out a browser extension conflict.
